They contain an ion exchange resin that demineralizes tap water. As the water passes through the resin, it is purified and ready for use. When the resin in the containers changes color, it must be replaced. Replacing the resin is very simple: just empty the containers of the used resin and replace it with new resin. Omicron supplies resin replacements for all its demineralizer models. The demineralizers are supplied complete with resin and ready for installation.

Demineralized water or deionized water is water that has been stripped of calcium and other elements. It is used in accumulators because it has no conductivity and prevents the formation of scale.
To improve the performance of the demineralizer in the presence of particularly hard or chlorinated water, a series of filters is installed upstream of the demineralizer.
Water contains a more or less significant amount of elements that contaminate it. The use of pre-filters improves the quality of the water entering the demineralizer because it retains certain elements, such as chlorine and iron, allowing the demineralizer’s ion exchange resin to filter a less contaminated water flow. This will increase the production of demineralized water for use in accumulators.

It is important to carefully evaluate these considerations before selecting the demineralizer that best suits your needs.

Replacing the resin in battery demineralizers is a relatively simple process, but one that requires attention to detail.
First, it is important to ensure that the demineralizer is completely turned off and disconnected from the power supply to avoid safety risks. Once opened, the container of spent resin must be removed carefully, taking care not to contaminate the surrounding environment. After thoroughly cleaning the inside of the demineralizer, the new demineralizing resin can be added. Finally, it is essential to perform control tests to verify that the demineralizer is working properly before putting it back into service. Carefully following these steps will ensure proper operation and longer battery life.

Tap water should not be used to top up forklift batteries for several reasons, mainly related to the composition of tap water and the effects it can have on the battery.
Tap water contains impurities and minerals that can build up on the battery’s lead plates, reducing the battery’s efficiency and life.
Minerals in tap water can form scale inside the battery, hindering the flow of current and reducing the battery’s ability to hold a charge.
Certain chemicals in tap water can cause internal corrosion in batteries.
Tap water has higher electrical conductivity than distilled or deionized water, which can lead to short circuits inside the battery and charge loss.
For these reasons, it is recommended to use distilled or deionized water to top up forklift batteries. This type of water is free of impurities and minerals, ensuring greater efficiency and battery life.
